A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and legacy of Bruce Thompson, recipient of the Cartersville-Bartow
County Chamber of Commerce 2024 Chairman's Award; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Bruce Thompson was recently honored posthumously as the recipient of the
Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce 2024 Chairman's Award in recognition
of his exemplary service to the State of Georgia, with his wife, Becky Thompson, accepting
the award on his behalf; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated local businessman, Bruce Thompson played an integral role in
Bartow County's economic growth and served as the 2012 Board Chair of the
Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, he continued his service to the community as a Georgia State Senator from
2014 to 2022, representing parts of Bartow and Cherokee counties as well as championing
community values, safety, and economic development during his tenure; and
WHEREAS, in 2021, Bruce Thompson launched a successful campaign for Commissioner
of the Georgia Department of Labor, where he advanced key initiatives such as Second
Chance hiring and worked to position Georgia as the No. 1 state for business; and
WHEREAS, despite his statewide responsibilities, he remained deeply connected to Bartow
County, often recognizing local leaders during his speeches and collaborating closely with
the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Thompson's profound contributions and enduring legacy of service to the
Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce, Bartow County, and the State of
Georgia make him a well-deserved recipient of this prestigious award.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body honor the life and legacy of Bruce Thompson upon his posthumous
receipt of the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce 2024 Chairman's Award;
express their deepest commendation for his efficient, effective, and dedicated public service
to the State of Georgia; and extend sincere best wishes to his family for their continued
strength and grace.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
family of Bruce Thompson.
