A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the National Association of Black Women in Construction;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the National Association of Black Women in Construction (NABWIC) was
founded in 1991 as a national organization dedicated to increasing awareness, representation,
and opportunities for Black women in the construction industry; and
WHEREAS, the NABWIC Atlanta Chapter was officially established in 2020 to advance the
national mission in Georgia, providing professional development, mentorship, and advocacy
for Black women in construction; and
WHEREAS, NABWIC actively engages in community service projects to uplift and improve
the lives of individuals in underserved communities, including its 2023 partnership with
Seaborn Elementary School to create a Zen Wellness Space for teachers, its 2024
collaboration with HouseProud Atlanta to provide home repair assistance to seniors and
veteran homeowners in Atlanta, and its 2024 participation in the African American Male
Wellness Agency Initiative to support health screenings and awareness campaigns for Black
men; and
WHEREAS, the NABWIC Atlanta Chapter is dedicated to legislative advocacy, ensuring
that Black women in construction receive equitable opportunities, fair wages, and
representation in government contracting and infrastructure projects; and
WHEREAS, NABWIC is participating in the Legislative Brunch on February 26, 2025, at
the Georgia Legislative Building, featuring key speakers Representative Angela Moore and
Senator Emanuel Jones, to advance policy discussions for increased access to government
contracts for Black women-owned construction firms, expanded workforce development and
training programs at HBCUs and trade schools, financial support for women-owned
businesses including grant opportunities and low-interest loans, supplier diversity and
procurement opportunities to ensure equitable access to large-scale projects, and safe and
inclusive work environments by eliminating discrimination and harassment in construction;
and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this outstanding organization be
appropriately honored.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and commend the National Association of Black Women
in Construction for its many remarkable contributions on behalf of the citizens of this state
as well as extend best wishes for continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
National Association of Black Women in Construction.
