A RESOLUTION
Commending the Spelman College Glee Club on its 100th anniversary for its outstanding
contributions to the arts and community; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Spelman College Glee Club, established in 1924, has a proud and rich
tradition of musical excellence, serving as a beacon of artistic achievement for over a
century; and
WHEREAS, through its commitment to the pursuit of musical excellence, the Glee Club has
become a cornerstone of Spelman College's cultural and artistic identity, enriching the lives
of its members and audiences within their mission to amaze and inspire; and
WHEREAS, the Glee Club has performed with distinguished artists and organizations such
as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, President Barack
Obama, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and India.Arie, among many others, demonstrating
its global reach and impact in the field of music; and
WHEREAS, in celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Spelman College Glee Club has
continued to build bridges through its performances, uniting communities, cultures, and
generations in song and spirit; and
WHEREAS, the Glee Club's unwavering commitment to its mission, fostering artistic talent,
discipline, and leadership, has set a standard for excellence and has produced remarkable
leaders who have carried the legacy of the Spelman spirit to every corner of the world; and
WHEREAS, the Glee Club's remarkable performances and community outreach, including
its participation in high-profile events such as Jimmy Carter's 100th birthday celebration and
the King Celebration, reflect the Glee Club's role as an ambassador for Spelman College and
the broader community; and
WHEREAS, under the direction of Dr. Kevin P. Johnson, the Glee Club has flourished and
expanded its influence, continuing to inspire and touch the lives of many through music and
dedication.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body commend the Spelman College Glee Club for its 100 years of
musical excellence, its contributions to the arts, and its role as a powerful force for cultural
enrichment, unity, and social change as well as extend their heartfelt congratulations and best
wishes for continued success in the years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
Spelman College Glee Club.
