A RESOLUTION
Recognizing February 2025 as American Heart Month in Macon-Bibb County; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, the American Heart Association designated the month of February as American
Heart Month, an annual observance which began in 1963 to ignite a wave of red across the
country and bring greater awareness to cardiovascular health and diseases; and
WHEREAS, women have long functioned as the heartbeat of the family and home, but
cardiovascular disease continues to be one of the greatest threats to overall health and
well-being in women; and
WHEREAS, the American Heart Association launched its signature initiative Go Red for
Women to be a comprehensive platform designed to increase women's heart health awareness
and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally; and
WHEREAS, cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer of women in the United States
and disproportionately affect African American women with nearly 50 percent being
diagnosed with heart disease in this country and numerous more unaware of the signs and
symptoms of the disease; and
WHEREAS, promoting awareness of heart disease is an important responsibility held by a
coalition of women-led organizations representing national and international entities: The
International Association of Ministers' Wives and Minsters' Widows, Incorporated; Women's
Missionary Society of AME Church; Order of the Eastern Star; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Incorporated; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
Incorporated; Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated; Jack and Jill of America,
Incorporated; and The Links, Incorporated, all of which have joined hearts and hands with
the American Heart Association of the Central Georgia Region to build awareness and
education of the resources for women in Macon-Bibb County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize February 2025 as American Heart Month in Macon-Bibb
County and encourage all residents to work together to improve women's health and increase
awareness and understanding of heart disease.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
public and the press.
