By: Representatives Richardson of the 125th and Clifton of the 131st
A RESOLUTION
Congratulating Terry Holder upon his induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, during his distinguished career, Terry Holder achieved an exceptional record
of 588-183 in baseball coaching, ranking 13th in Georgia state history for total wins and
becoming the first baseball coach in Georgia to reach 500 career victories; and
WHEREAS, he led his teams to eight state championships within a 12 year-long span,
earning five titles at Evans High School and three at Greenbrier High School; and
WHEREAS, his Evans High School teams achieved a historic 61-game winning streak
between 1988 and 1990 in the state's largest classification—a record that remains the longest
in Georgia history and ranks 14th in United States history; and
WHEREAS, under his leadership, the 1989 Evans High School baseball team finished with
an exemplary record of 29-0, earned a No. 3 national ranking by USA Today, and established
itself as the last undefeated baseball team in Georgia history; and
WHEREAS, Terry Holder further served as the first head football coach at Greenbrier High
School, achieving records of 7-4, 9-3, and 8-3 with playoff appearances each year; and
WHEREAS, throughout his 30 baseball seasons and four football seasons as a head coach,
he experienced only one losing season, which occurred during his first year coaching football
at Wilkinson County High School; and
WHEREAS, Terry Holder has been previously inducted into three prestigious Hall of
Fames—the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA), the Georgia Dugout Club, and
the Brewton-Parker College Athletic Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, this distinguished gentleman has given inspiration to many through his high
ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and he possesses the vast wisdom
which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved
through overcoming the many challenges of life; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body congratulate Terry Holder upon the grand occasion of his induction
into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued
health and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Terry
Holder.
