A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of March as Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, autoimmune diseases impact thousands of Georgians each year, disproportionately affecting women and people of color, but awareness and understanding of these diseases remains low; and

WHEREAS, recognizing autoimmune diseases during the month of March will help raise public awareness, encourage early detection and diagnosis, and support research and policy initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes; and

WHEREAS, designating the month of March as Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month will demonstrate the State of Georgia's commitment to health equity and highlight its dedication to supporting Georgians facing these chronic, often invisible, illnesses.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body:

(1) Designate March of each year as Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month in the State of Georgia;

(2) Encourage officials and departments of state, county, and municipal governments, businesses, and all citizens to participate in appropriate programs and activities that facilitate increased awareness and education about autoimmune diseases throughout each March to commemorate Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month; and

(3) Respectfully request the Governor to issue annually a proclamation recognizing March in the State of Georgia as Autoimmune Awareness Month and call upon the people in the State of Georgia to observe the month with appropriate programs and activities.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Governor Brian Kemp and the public and the press.
