House Resolution 465 By: Representatives Santos of the 117th, Kahaian of the 81st, Douglas of the 78th, Flournoy of the 74th, Holly of the 116th, and others A RESOLUTION Commending the McDonough High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Warhawk Battalion; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, composed of students from McDonough High School and eighth graders from McDonough Middle School, the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) Warhawk Battalion is both the oldest and one of the most decorated NJROTC units in Henry County; and WHEREAS, the Warhawk Battalion has been selected as a Distinguished Unit 19 times in the last 20 years and has earned Unit Achievement twice, placing it among the top 20 percent of over 600 NJROTC units nationwide; and WHEREAS, the program is led by Retired Chief Warrant Officer-4 Rawley Colemon, Senior Naval Science Instructor; Retired Master Chief Petty Officer Sanja Walker, Naval Science Instructor; and Retired Chief Petty Officer Timothy Welch, Naval Science Instructor, whose leadership and dedication have greatly contributed to the success of the program and its cadets; and WHEREAS, in the past five years, eight cadets from the Warhawk Battalion have gained entrance into United States service academies while others have pursued higher education at institutions such as the University of Georgia, Georgia State University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, Savannah State University, Alabama A&M University, Georgia Southern University, and Gordon College, among many others; and WHEREAS, the Warhawk Battalion emphasizes the importance of community involvement through participation in events such as the annual Veterans Day Parade, Christmas Canned Food Drive, and Christmas Parade as well as service projects for the Heritage Park Veterans Memorial, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the "Hands-on-Henry" Community Clean-up, and Noah's Ark; and WHEREAS, the program further enhances cadet development through field trips, including an overnight visit to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in South Carolina, exposing cadets to national historical landmarks and military traditions; and WHEREAS, through its commitment to leadership, academic excellence, and community service, the McDonough High School NJROTC Warhawk Battalion continues to shape the next generation of disciplined and service-oriented leaders. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the McDonough High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Warhawk Battalion for its decades of service to Henry County and extend best wishes for the continued success of its cadets. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the McDonough High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Warhawk Battalion.
