## Text

House Resolution 555
By: Representative Burns of the 159th
A RESOLUTION
Congratulating and commending Craig and Diana Barrow, the inaugural recipients of the
Vince and Barbara Dooley Friends of the UGA Libraries Award; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Vince and Barbara Dooley Friends of the UGA Libraries Award was
established to honor individuals who make a profound difference in the lives of students,
faculty, and the university community through their support of the University of Georgia
(UGA) Libraries, thereby carrying on the Dooley's legacy of service; and
WHEREAS, Craig and Diana Barrow, distinguished alumni of the UGA Class of 1965, were
selected as the inaugural recipients of this prestigious award in recognition of their
unwavering commitment to supporting the instruction, research, and service goals of the
UGA Libraries; and
WHEREAS, the Barrows are the owners of Wormsloe, a coastal Georgia site of immense
historical, ecological, and archaeological significance originally settled in the 1730s by Craig
Barrow's ancestor, Noble Jones, and they have worked to preserve and enhance its role as an
educational and research resource; and
WHEREAS, in 2012, the Barrows, through the Wormsloe Foundation, donated 15 acres of
land to the UGA Libraries to establish the Center for Research and Education at Wormsloe
(CREW), creating a dynamic environment for student and faculty discovery, research, and
experiential learning; and
WHEREAS, the Barrows further played a crucial role in the development and success of the
UGA Libraries' Board of Visitors, which was instrumental in securing private funding to
construct the Russell Special Collections Building; and
WHEREAS, their contributions have built upon a legacy deeply intertwined with the UGA
Libraries, as Craig Barrow's ancestor, Wymberly Jones De Renne, assembled the most
significant private collection of books and manuscripts on Georgia at Wormsloe, which was
donated to UGA in 1938; and
WHEREAS, the Barrows' enduring generosity, leadership, and passion for education and
preservation have transformed their family's historical connection to UGA into a lasting
legacy that will benefit generations of scholars, researchers, and students.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body congratulate and commend Craig and Diana Barrow, the inaugural
recipients of the Vince and Barbara Dooley Friends of the UGA Libraries Award, and extend
best wishes for continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Craig
and Diana Barrow.

## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia House resolution commends Craig and Diana Barrow as the first recipients of a University of Georgia Libraries award honoring their donations of land and support for research at Wormsloe.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives honors Craig and Diana Barrow, University of Georgia (UGA) alumni, as the first winners of the Vince and Barbara Dooley Friends of the UGA Libraries Award. The award recognizes people who have significantly supported the UGA Libraries.
The resolution recounts the Barrows' ownership of Wormsloe, a historic coastal Georgia site, and their 2012 donation of 15 acres of that land to create the Center for Research and Education at Wormsloe. It also notes their role in helping fund the Russell Special Collections Building and their family's long connection to UGA's book and manuscript collections. The resolution directs the Clerk of the House to give the Barrows a copy as a keepsake. It does not change any Georgia law.

### Who it affects
