A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Boy With a Ball; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Boy With a Ball was founded in 2001 by Executive Director Jamie Johnson in San Antonio, Texas, with the mission of developing young people and implementing scalable solutions to address community needs; and

WHEREAS, since its inception, Boy With a Ball has launched over 50,000 youth as changemakers, inspiring citywide movements to revitalize struggling neighborhoods in Atlanta, across the United States, and in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East; and

WHEREAS, the organization has further dedicated 435,380 volunteer hours, engaged 9,786 volunteers, facilitated 723 small groups, and fostered 3,034 mentoring relationships; and

WHEREAS, in a groundbreaking achievement, Boy With a Ball played a central role in developing the El Triangulo de la Solidaridad squatter's settlement in San José, Costa Rica, through its Love Your City initiative in partnership with the United States; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of its outstanding contributions to social progress, Boy With a Ball was granted special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 2015 as well as the opportunity to present its Love Your City model at the World Bank's Annual Meetings in 2016; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Jamie Johnson, Boy With a Ball has expanded to 12 teams operating in seven countries, continuing to transform the lives of young people and the communities they serve; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this exemplary organization be appropriately honored during this special time.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Boy With a Ball for its profound contributions to youth development and community transformation as well as extend best wishes for continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Boy With a Ball.
