House Resolution 61

A RESOLUTION

Commending AHIMSA-End Gun Violence; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, AHIMSA-End Gun Violence was founded on April 18, 2023, by Dr. Amod Sureka, Dr. Shailendra Palvia, and Ms. Vaisheshi Jalajam; and

WHEREAS, "Ahimsa," the organization's namesake, is the ancient Indian principle of nonviolence and is a key virtue for a number of Indian religions; and

WHEREAS, based on the principle of Ahimsa, this remarkable organization advocates for gun violence prevention through legislative action and student mentorship; and

WHEREAS, AHIMSA-End Gun Violence holds five-day, 40-hour classes for students interested in gun violence prevention advocacy; and

WHEREAS, AHIMSA-End Gun Violence is preparing future generations to be well informed, effective advocates; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary organization be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend AHIMSA-End Gun Violence for their student mentorship and advocacy as well as extend best wishes for its future success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to AHIMSA-End Gun Violence.
