A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Reverend Sherryl Harris King on the occasion of her 20th pastoral anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Reverend Sherryl Harris King has demonstrated her commitment to teaching the Gospel, witnessing Christ through word and deed, and addressing the physical, psychological, intellectual, and spiritual needs of others; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Sherryl Harris King was called by the Lord 20 years ago to lead the congregation of Peters Chapel A.M.E. Church in Columbus, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, her vision and direction have helped Peters Chapel A.M.E. Church grow in size and influence, uplifting the community like the light of Bethlehem and serving as a spiritual leader and place for fellowship; and

WHEREAS, over the past two decades leading Peters Chapel A.M.E. Church, Reverend Sherryl Harris King has established numerous programs and workshops which have improved the spiritual and educational growth of the church and the surrounding community; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Sherryl Harris King has led the church to focusing on being healthy physically well, partnering with the Alter Program of Emory University to teach African American churches how to minister to those dealing with dementia and with Dr. Henry Young of the University of Georgia focusing on the prevention of type II diabetes; and

WHEREAS, under her leadership the church started the Home Touch Ministry for those dealing with dementia, giving them opportunities to get out of the home and to complete activities and to fellowship with others; and

WHEREAS, whether the task is preparing a sermon, visiting the sick, counseling the troubled, baptizing a new believer, or acting as a theologian, educator, administrator, or humanitarian, Reverend Sherryl Harris King serves as a shining example of God's righteous path; and

WHEREAS, the unmatched spiritual assistance offered by Reverend Sherryl Harris King is a source of strength and direction for persons in all walks of life; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the dynamic Christian ministry of this devout and pious woman.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Reverend Sherryl Harris King on the wonderful occasion of her 20th pastoral anniversary and extend best wishes for many more years of successful fellowship and leadership.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Reverend Sherryl Harris King.
