House Resolution 720

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Alfonzo Williams; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Alfonzo Williams has served with honor and distinction as the Sheriff of Burke2
County since 2017; and3
WHEREAS, Sheriff Williams has over 35 years of law enforcement experience, and made4
history as the first African American Sheriff of Burke County and the first African American5
Police Chief of the City of Waynesboro Police Department; and6
WHEREAS, he is an honest and dedicated public servant who striv es for excellence in all7
of his endeavors and whose primary concern is the welfare and s afety of the citizens of8
Georgia; and9
WHEREAS, he is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and by state and local10
government officials as a man of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the administration11
of justice and sound principles of law enforcement; and12

WHEREAS, this spirited law enforcement professional has exhibited extraordinary devotion13
to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all of his14
duties; and15
WHEREAS, Sheriff Williams' efficient and effective commitment t o excellence has been16
recognized by his peers through the many decorations and awards he has received, including17
several Officer of the Year awards; and18
WHEREAS, his inspiring commitment to the welfare of others is an outstanding example of19
the positive effect law enforcement professionals have on the lives and well-being of others;20
and21
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that gratitude is expressed for the unique and22
often unheralded contributions of local law enforcement profess ionals on behalf of the23
citizens of this state.24
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25
the members of this body commend the care, courage, sympathy, a nd selfless dedication26
exhibited by Alfonzo Williams in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation and express27
their utmost appreciation for having so purely and truly define d for others the meaning of28
public servant.29
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to31
Alfonzo Williams.32
