House Resolution 795

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Lewis Grant; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Atlanta native Lewis Grant began his musical studies at the age of ten and by age twelve began his professional career in entertainment with the vocal group "The Continentals"; and

WHEREAS, after playing in the high school band, Lewis went on to study classical styles of music at Clark College, now Clark Atlanta University, where he skillfully led the French Horn section and sang first tenor in the Philharmonic Society; and

WHEREAS, with the awareness of what was needed on the contemporary sound scene, Lewis started "The Prime Ministers Band," a music group that projected charisma, style, versatility, and universal appeal; and

WHEREAS, "The Prime Ministers Band" became the house band for New York Mets, Don Clendenon's Club, The Mine Shaft in Underground Atlanta, and the famous Paschal's La Carrousel; and

WHEREAS, a testament to his musical abilities, Lewis has performed with Robert Lee Smith and The Original Tams, Liz Spraggins, R&B great Barbara Hall, Bobby Blue Bland, Cannonball Adderly, Mongo Santa Maria, Shirley Diamond, bassist Robert Popwell, and numerous other international and local artists; and

WHEREAS, this extraordinary Georgian has contributed innumerably to the culture and music of the state, making it abundantly fitting and proper that he is honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Lewis Grant and extend sincere best wishes for his continued health, happiness, and success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Lewis Grant.
