A RESOLUTION
Commending Sergeant Trey Nelson, recipient of the 2024 Officer of the Year award; and for1
other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Sergeant Trey Nelson of the Dunwoody Police Department was recently named3
the 2024 Officer of the Year by the Governor's Office of Highwa y Safety and the Metro4
Atlanta Traffic Enforcement Network in recognition of his outst anding work combating5
distracted and drunk driving; and6
WHEREAS, Sergeant Nelson has served with the Dunwoody Police Department since 2010,7
beginning his career in the patrol division and later serving as the department's community8
outreach officer and public information officer before being promoted to the traffic division9
as a sergeant; and10
WHEREAS, in his current role, he plays a key leadership role in reducing distracted and11
impaired driving through educational campaigns, targeted enforc ement events, and12
collaboration with external agencies; and13
WHEREAS, his proactive work includes school zone speed enforcement, distracted driving14
checks, and educating young drivers on the dangers of cell phone use while driving; and15

WHEREAS, as additional testament to his dedication to his fellow citizens, Sergeant Nelson16
received a medal for meritorious service in 2024 from the Dunwo ody City Council for17
reviving a choking toddler using a LifeVac suction device; and18
WHEREAS, this spirited law enforcement professional has exhibited extraordinary devotion19
to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all of his20
duties; and21
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that gratitude is expressed for the unique and22
often unheralded contributions of local law enforcement profess ionals on behalf of the23
citizens of this state.24
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25
the members of this body commend the care, courage, sympathy, a nd selfless dedication26
exhibited by Sergeant Trey Nelson, recipient of the 2024 Office r of the Year award, and27
express their utmost appreciation for having so purely and trul y defined for others the28
meaning of public servant.29
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to31
Sergeant Trey Nelson.32
