A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Rashan Ali Smith; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, with a passion for sports and entertainment, Rashan Ali Smith, born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Decatur, has established herself as a revered multimedia personality; and
WHEREAS, an honor graduate of Florida A&M University, she has had candid perspective on local Atlanta radio for nearly 15 years on HOT 107.9, V-103 and Streetz 94.5, helping to propel those stations' ratings to top five in the market; and
WHEREAS, lending her talents to sports television, she worked as a sports anchor for Headlines News and CNN as well as a sideline reporter for CBS Sports Network, covering college football and basketball for four seasons; and
WHEREAS, Rashan delivered her unique and personable perspective as one of four co-hosts on the nationally syndicated daily talk show, Sister Circle Live on TV One for three seasons; and
WHEREAS, she currently hosts "The Cool Soror Podcast," a show in which she created to highlight outstanding women and men in Black Greek Lettered Organizations; and
WHEREAS, her passion and purpose are deeply tied to the community; she is the founder of Sporty Girls, Inc., a non-profit organization that encourages the development of life and academic skills in girls ages 8-18 through participation in golf, tennis, soccer, swimming, and lacrosse; and
WHEREAS, since its inception in 2006, Sporty Girls, Inc., has served nearly 2,000 girls in the Metro Atlanta area; and
WHEREAS, Rashan is planning to relaunch Sporty Girls, Inc., in 2025; and
WHEREAS, Rashan has also published and released a vibrant children’s book called "Piper Sky’s Pink Popsicle Shoes," based on the likeness of her own daughters as it follows the lead character, Piper Sky, and her quest to help her friends find their own magic; and
WHEREAS, Rashan is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she serves internationally on the honorary and awards committee; and
WHEREAS, she currently has a recurring role on a top-rated show under the Tyler Perry print on BET+; and
WHEREAS, she has been married to Brian Smith for 22 years and they have two daughters; Bailey, a freshman at Howard University, and Carter, a 9th grader; and
WHEREAS, Rashan lives by the motto, “Giving is the rent we pay for living."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Rashan Ali Smith and extend sincere best wishes for her continued health, happiness, and success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Rashan Ali Smith.
