House Resolution 925

A RESOLUTION

Commending Sheriff Gary Gulledge; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Sheriff Gary Gulledge served with honor and distinction as the 47th sheriff of the Paulding County Sheriff's Office from 2008 until his retirement in 2024, concluding his exemplary 34-year career in law enforcement where it first began in 1990; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Sheriff Gulledge held roles such as jailer, patrol deputy, warrant officer, and K-9 deputy, with much of his pre-sheriff service spent in the K-9 Division, where he and K-9 Basco became the first dual purpose K-9 team in the department's history; and

WHEREAS, as sheriff, he remained accessible to his constituents, represented the Office of Sheriff with fairness and professionalism, and played a critical role in overseeing the department's growth, including the development of a new training facility in 2016 and the design and construction of a new law enforcement facility and detention center in 2020; and

WHEREAS, he contributed to law enforcement initiatives across the state, serving on the Georgia Sheriffs' Association Board of Directors and Legislative Committee as well as its regional vice president for Region 1; and

WHEREAS, he further served as part of the Georgia Commission on Medical Cannabis, the Georgia Department of Corrections Board, the Advisory Board of the Northwest Georgia Law Enforcement Training Center, and as chairman of the Haralson-Paulding Drug Taskforce Control Board; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Gulledge's unyielding commitment to public safety has left a lasting impact on Paulding County and set a high standard for future generations of law enforcement professionals; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the care, courage, sympathy, and selfless dedication exhibited by Sheriff Gary Gulledge in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation, congratulate him upon the grand occasion of his retirement, and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Sheriff Gary Gulledge.
