A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the centennial anniversary of the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in1
Thomasville, Georgia; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, in 1923, John F. Archbold purchased a 5.81-acre parcel on Gordon Avenue for3
the construction of a new hospital for Thomasville and Thomas County; and4
WHEREAS, in 1923, a Board of Trustees was formed, a charter of incorporation was5
obtained, and a hospital director was selected; and6
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital was dedicated on June 30, 1925, and7
accepted its first patient in transfer from the City Hospital on July 3, 1925; and8
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital has steadfastly maintained its status9
as a leading medical facility in Southwest Georgia, offering cancer, surgical, heart, imaging,10
maternity, and primary care; and11
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital has maintained a position at the12
forefront of medical research and investigation on a level that vastly supersedes the13
expectations for a community hospital; and14

WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital has grown from a facility that trained15
interns in the 1920s to an institution that trains nursing stud ents, medical students, allied16
health students, and resident physicians; and17
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital has remained tr ue to its mission to18
provide safe, innovative, and compassionate care for its commun ities and the surrounding19
region, with a vision to promote a healthier region, stronger communities, meaningful work,20
and trusted care; and21
WHEREAS, the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital is the anchor of a healthcare system22
that serves 15 counties in Southwest Georgia.23
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24
the members of this body recognize the centennial anniversary o f the John D. Archbold25
Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia, and extend their sincere congratulations to its26
leadership, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, technologists, the rapists, and all other27
administrative and support personnel who have contributed to the healthcare and well-being28
of the people of Thomasville, Thomas County, and the surroundin g areas of Southwest29
Georgia and North Florida.30
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the32
John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital.33
