A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending David Curtis Bridges, PhD, upon his induction into the1
Georgia Agriculture Hall of Fame; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, David Curtis Bridges, PhD, has long been recognized by the citizens of this3
state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to4
the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and5
WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,6
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced7
dramatically by his legacy of agricultural education and rural advocacy; and8
WHEREAS, from 2006 to 2022, David served as the 10th president of Abraham Baldwin9
Agricultural College (ABAC), making him the longest serving college or university president10
in Georgia; and11
WHEREAS, he has worked tirelessly for many years on behalf of r ural Georgia, and his12
work with the Rural Caucus and the House Rural Development Council was instrumental in13
creating the Center for Rural Prosperity and Innovation at ABAC; and14

WHEREAS, as interim director of Georgia's Center for Rural Pros perity and Innovation,15
David advocates for rural communities; and16
WHEREAS, his expertise in defending the safety and demand for G eorgia peanuts earned17
him recognition from the United States Department of Agriculture, the Georgia Department18
of Agriculture, and the Georgia Peanut Commission, which awarde d him a Distinguished19
Service Award; and 20
WHEREAS, his pioneering work on weed control in tobacco led to the registration of two21
novel herbicides for use in Georgia tobacco fields; and 22
WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable patience and23
diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have24
earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and25
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the indelible agricultural contributions26
of this Georgian are appropriately honored.27
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28
the members of this body recognize and commend David Curtis Bri dges, PhD, for his29
efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service t o the State of Georgia;30
congratulate him upon the being inducted to the Georgia Agricul ture Hall of Fame; and31
extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.32
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized33
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to David34
Curtis Bridges, PhD.35
