A RESOLUTION

Honoring T.I. for his contributions to Bankhead, Atlanta, and global culture; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, T.I., born Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., has emerged as one of the most influential and respected figures in hip-hop, music, and entertainment, contributing immeasurably to the growth of Atlanta’s music scene, the culture of Bankhead, and the global recognition of Southern rap; and

WHEREAS, hailing from Bankhead, T.I. has used his platform to elevate and represent his community, often serving as the voice of resilience, authenticity, and street knowledge, bridging the gap between Atlanta’s underground scene and mainstream success; and

WHEREAS, T.I. rose to prominence with his debut album I'm Serious in 2001, and solidified his place as one of hip-hop's leading figures with the release of "Trap Muzik" (2003) and subsequent albums, including "Urban Legend" (2004), "King" (2006), and "Paper Trail" (2008), producing iconic tracks that shaped the sound of Southern rap; and

WHEREAS, T.I.’s “King of the South” moniker not only highlights his influence in hip-hop but also reflects his impact on the broader culture, where he served as a trendsetter in fashion, language, and entrepreneurship, playing a critical role in popularizing trap music and Southern rap across the nation and globally; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his musical accomplishments, T.I. has become a prominent businessman, philanthropist, and community leader—founding his label Grand Hustle Records, signing groundbreaking artists, and promoting positive change through ventures like his "I’m Me" foundation, which advocates for the youth and promotes education, mentorship, and social justice; and

WHEREAS, T.I.’s advocacy extends beyond music, as he is a vocal leader on issues of criminal justice reform, education, and economic empowerment, using his platform to engage in public discourse and actively contribute to initiatives aimed at transforming his community and improving the lives of those most vulnerable; and

WHEREAS, T.I. has been honored with numerous accolades, including Grammy Awards, BET Hip Hop Awards, and recognition as one of the most influential artists of his generation, maintaining his status as an icon in hip-hop culture and as a representative of Bankhead and Atlanta on the global stage.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor T.I. for his outstanding contributions to the cultural, musical, and social fabric of Bankhead, Atlanta, and the world, recognizing his dedication to uplifting his community, shaping the future of Southern rap, and inspiring the next generation of artists and leaders.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to T.I.
