A RESOLUTION
Honoring the longstanding partnership between the Province of Québec and the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Province of Québec has maintained a permanent presence in the State of Georgia since 1978, and the two regions are founding states of the Southeast United States-Canadian Provinces alliance; and
WHEREAS, Québec is Georgia's second-largest Canadian export destination and a significant investor in the state's economy, ranking first among Canadian provinces for foreign direct investment in Georgia from 2014 to 2023; and
WHEREAS, in 2023, Québec was a critical supplier for Georgia's aerospace sector, ranking first internationally in supplying flight simulators, second for turbojets, and eighth for aircraft parts while also serving as the world's third-largest aerospace hub; and
WHEREAS, Québec supplied more than half of all United States imports of primary aluminum in 2023, positioning itself as Georgia's largest international supplier of zinc alloy and second-largest supplier of unwrought aluminum, which directly supports Georgia's automotive and manufacturing industries; and
WHEREAS, Québec significantly contributed to Georgia's transportation and automotive sectors, ranking second among international importers of Georgia-made buses and third for trailers and tires; and
WHEREAS, Québec was Georgia's fourth-largest international supplier of forestry products in 2023, ranking first in particle board, second in softwood lumber, and fourth in joinery and carpentry products, all critical to Georgia's construction sector; and
WHEREAS, around 45 Québec-owned companies currently operate in Georgia, directly creating hundreds of local jobs, while more than 50 Georgia-based businesses maintain operations in Québec; and
WHEREAS, Québec holds recognized expertise in quantum computing, a field of emerging importance that aligns with Georgia's own interests in developing advanced technology industries; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable partnership be appropriately recognized during this special time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor the decades-long partnership between the Province of Québec and the State of Georgia as well as extend best wishes for many more years of mutual prosperity and growth.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
