A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the 2025 Awards of Honor recipient, Virginia Barrow Harman; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Virginia Barrow Harman is a Senior Partner at McRae, Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe LLP; and
WHEREAS, Virginia cares deeply about access to justice for all of the communities of Rome and Floyd County and the environment in which they live; and
WHEREAS, she has handled countless pro bono matters, particularly as they relate to the cleanliness of rivers; and
WHEREAS, Virginia has served the community through her volunteerism with multiple organizations, serving as Chair of the Board of the local chapter of the American Red Cross, the Capital Fund Raising Committee for the Salvation Army local facility expansion, Planned Giving Committee for the Floyd Healthcare Foundation, Board of Harbor House, Co-host for the annual Pig and Paddle event, the Georgia and Rome Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia's Disciplinary Board's Review and Investigatory Panels, the Committee on Lawyer Assistance Program for attorneys facing mental health crises and/or substance abuse issues, as well as Cancer Navigators, Inc., Board Member, general counsel, and two terms as Chair of the Board; and
WHEREAS, Virginia assisted Dr. Matt Mumber in creating the legal framework for the organization which has grown over the decades into what is now known as Cancer Navigators, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Virginia is dedicated to the effort of assisting cats and dogs in animal shelters, particularly in rural shelters with few resources, and since 2017 has transported over 300 dogs and cats to rescues all over the southeast and has been a part of relay transports to relocate dogs and cats all over the country to adopters and licensed rescue; and
WHEREAS, Virginia is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Conservancy since 2018, serving as Chair of the Board for two years and as a member of the Executive Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Virginia Barrow Harman for her outstanding dedication to the community, commend her as a recipient of the 2025 Heart of the Community Awards Honor Recipient, and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Virginia Barrow Harman.
