A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Mayor Patti Garrett upon her retirement; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mayor Patti Garrett has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced dramatically by her superlative 16 years of service to the City of Decatur, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, after moving to Oakhurst in 2001, she became deeply involved in her community, serving on the board of the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association, participating in the Oakhurst Community Garden, and chairing the Oakhurst Tour of Homes; and
WHEREAS, in 2010, Mayor Garrett was sworn in as a member of the Decatur City Commission; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure on the commission, she spearheaded several important developments across the City of Decatur, including a renewed focused on attracting businesses and increasing density downtown, planning new land use for parking lots, implementing Safe Routes to school, and expanding the city's use of new technology and social media platforms; and
WHEREAS, she was elected Mayor of Decatur in 2016 and proudly led the city to the purchase of Legacy Park within her first year of service, in addition to countless other notable achievements; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Garrett has served with honor and distinction with the City of Decatur, and her vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed upon the occasion of her retirement; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Mayor Patti Garrett for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia; congratulate her upon the grand occasion of her retirement; and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mayor Patti Garrett.
