Senate Resolution 1022 By: Senators Rahman of the 5th, Orrock of the 36th, Harbison of the 15th, Howard of the 35th, Rhett of the 33rd and others A RESOLUTION Honoring the 2026 Walk for Peace; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, in a time of great change and reflection for our nation, people across Texas and the United States are seeking ways to promote unity, healing, and peace in our communities; and WHEREAS, the 2026 Walk for Peace was a 2,300-mile spiritual and patriotic pilgrimage that began at the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center in Fort Worth, Texas, and traveled on foot through nine states to the White House in Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, this historic journey was led by Bhikkhu Pannakara, accompanied by 19 Buddhist monks, and Aloka, the "Peace Dog," embodying the timeless values of the Buddhist tradition-wisdom, compassion, and mindfulness while also honoring deeply held American principles of unity, personal responsibility, and mutual respect; and WHEREAS, this mindful journey sought to promote compassion, unity, and community healing through peaceful presence, intentional walking, and engagement with local residents; and WHEREAS, during this critical time when communities across our nation are facing rising mental health challenges, divisions, and global uncertainty, the 2026 Walk for Peace serves as a reminder that peace is not merely a destination but a practice that begins within and radiates outward to families, communities, and nations; and WHEREAS, ending on February 11, 2026, the Walk for Peace represented an open invitation to people of all faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs to join in a shared aspiration: to live with greater compassion, mutual respect, and understanding. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor the 2026 Walk for Peace and extend sincere best wishes to all its participants for future health and happiness. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
