A RESOLUTION

Recognizing July 4, 2026, as Georgia Highlands College Community Impact Day; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the United States of America celebrates the 250th anniversary of its founding in 2026, marking two and a half centuries of liberty, opportunity, and the enduring promise of education as a pathway to a better future; and

WHEREAS, Georgia Highlands College, founded in 1970, has proudly served the people of Northwest Georgia for more than 50 years, providing accessible, high-quality education and transforming lives through learning; and

WHEREAS, over the past five decades, Georgia Highlands College has served more than 250,000 community members, empowering individuals and families through opportunity, workforce preparation, and academic achievement; and

WHEREAS, in just the past three academic years, students have completed more than 250,000 credit hours, demonstrating the continued demand for education and the dedication of the college's students, faculty, and staff; and

WHEREAS, over the last 12 years, the college has offered more than 25,000 courses, strengthening the workforce and expanding opportunities for communities across the region; and

WHEREAS, more than 2,500 graduates have joined the proud ranks of Georgia Highlands College alumni in the past three years, contributing their talents and leadership to businesses, healthcare systems, schools, and communities throughout Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Georgia Highlands College has generated a combined economic impact of more than $2.5 billion over the past 50 years, demonstrating its vital role in strengthening the regional economy and supporting the prosperity of the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize July 4, 2026, as Georgia Highlands College Community Impact Day in honor of the college's extraordinary service to its students, families, and communities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
