A RESOLUTION

Commending John Haupert for his outstanding service as President and Chief Executive Officer of Grady Health System upon the occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, John Haupert has served with exceptional leadership as President and Chief Executive Officer of Grady Health System in Atlanta since October 2011, guiding one of the nation's most vital safety-net healthcare systems with vision, integrity, and unwavering commitment; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his distinguished 15-year tenure, Mr. Haupert has transformed Grady Health System into a more financially stable and sustainable institution, ensuring its continued ability to provide high-quality care to the residents of Fulton and DeKalb counties and the broader metropolitan Atlanta community; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership, Grady has strengthened its position as a premier healthcare provider and as a Level I trauma center and burn center, delivering lifesaving care and advancing excellence through nationally recognized clinical services, including the Marcus Neuroscience and Stroke Center, the Correll Cardiac Center, the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence, Hughes-Spalding Children's Hospital, and Grady EMS, one of the largest hospital-based emergency medical services agencies in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Haupert has played a pivotal role in advancing medical education and training, with Grady serving as the primary clinical training site for the Morehouse School of Medicine and the Emory University School of Medicine, thereby shaping future generations of healthcare professionals; and

WHEREAS, his tenure has been marked by visionary planning and strategic growth, including the development and advancement of a new $900 million hospital campus in South Fulton, which will expand access to care and strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the region; and

WHEREAS, even upon his retirement at the end of 2026, Mr. Haupert has demonstrated his continued dedication by committing to serve in an advisory capacity through 2027 to support the successful completion of the South Fulton campus project and ongoing fundraising efforts; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Haupert's exemplary leadership has earned national recognition, including his service as Chair of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees and his receipt of the prestigious American College of Healthcare Executives Gold Medal in 2023; and

WHEREAS, through his steadfast commitment to service, innovation, and community health, John Haupert has left an indelible mark on Grady Health System and the State of Georgia, improving the lives of countless individuals and strengthening the healthcare safety net for generations to come.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend John Haupert for his extraordinary leadership, dedicated service, and lasting contributions to healthcare in Georgia and extend their best wishes for a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to John Haupert.
