Senate Resolution 1059 By: Senator Mallow of the 2nd A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Chief Torrance Garvin; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Chief Torrance Garvin served with honor and distinction for 34 years with the Savannah Police Department, culminating in his role as Chief of Police; and WHEREAS, throughout his extensive tenure, he held numerous positions across a wide range of divisions, including the Crime Suppression Unit, Recruiting Unit, Special Investigations Section, Violent Crimes Task Force, and the Criminal Investigations Division, advancing through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, and captain; and WHEREAS, he further strengthened his leadership and professional development through his completion of Leadership Savannah and the International Association of Chiefs of Police's Leadership in Police Organizations Course; and WHEREAS, he has maintained active involvement in professional organizations such as NOBLE, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, as well as the Georgia Chiefs of Police Association; and WHEREAS, this distinguished gentleman has given inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and he possesses the vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life; and WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that gratitude is expressed for the unique and often unheralded contributions of local law enforcement professionals on behalf of the citizens of this state. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Chief Torrance Garvin for his decades of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the City of Savannah and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Chief Torrance Garvin.
