## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia Senate resolution formally congratulates the Wilcox County High School Lady Patriots basketball team for winning the 2026 GHSA Class A Division II Girls Basketball Championship.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution is a ceremonial statement from the Georgia Senate honoring the Wilcox County High School Lady Patriots basketball team. It recounts the team's 29-1 season record and its win over Washington-Wilkes High School, 48 to 39, to capture the 2026 GHSA Class A Division II Girls Basketball Championship, the team's second consecutive state title.
The resolution does not change any Georgia law. It simply states the Senate's congratulations to the team and directs the Secretary of the Senate to prepare a copy of the resolution for distribution to the team, so the players and coaches have an official record of the recognition.

### What it does

- Formally congratulates the Wilcox County High School Lady Patriots basketball team on behalf of the Georgia Senate for winning the 2026 GHSA Class A Division II title.
- States the team's season record of 29 wins and 1 loss and the championship game score of 48 to 39 over Washington-Wilkes High School.
- Directs the Secretary of the Senate to prepare a copy of the resolution for distribution to the team.
- Extends the Senate's best wishes to the team for continued success but creates no legal obligations or funding.

### Who it affects

The Wilcox County High School Lady Patriots basketball team, its players, coaches, and the Wilcox County community are directly named and honored. The resolution has no effect on other schools, agencies, or the general public beyond this recognition.

### Why it matters

The resolution carries symbolic rather than legal weight. It gives the team and the Wilcox County community official recognition from the Georgia Senate for their championship season, but it does not create funding, policy, or requirements affecting anyone beyond the ceremonial gesture.

### Key provisions

- The resolved clause states the Senate's congratulations to the team for winning the 2026 GHSA Class A Division II Girls Basketball Championship.
- A further resolved clause directs the Secretary of the Senate to make a copy of the resolution available for distribution to the team.
- The whereas clauses recite the team's 29-1 record and the 48-39 championship win over Washington-Wilkes High School as factual background, not binding law.
