A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Nicholas House Inc. for its longstanding commitment to
serving families experiencing homelessness and honoring the Dream Builders Event on April
23, 2026; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Nicholas House Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering
families experiencing homelessness to achieve lasting self-sufficiency through stable housing
and comprehensive, wrap-around support services; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1982 by members of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in
Atlanta, Nicholas House began as a compassionate response to families in need of safe
overnight shelter and has since grown into a leading organization providing long-term
solutions to homelessness; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas House now serves hundreds of parents and children each year and
provides safe housing to approximately 250 individuals each night, ensuring that families
remain together while receiving the care and support necessary to rebuild their lives; and
WHEREAS, the organization addresses the root causes of homelessness through critical
programs, including emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing, and
housing stability assistance, all designed to help families secure and maintain safe, stable
housing; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas House is committed to helping families achieve self-sufficiency by
focusing on earning a living wage, maintaining physical and mental well-being, and
sustaining long-term housing stability; and
WHEREAS, homelessness places a profound burden on families, particularly children, who
often face instability, trauma, and barriers to education and health, making the work of
Nicholas House essential to strengthening communities and improving outcomes for future
generations; and
WHEREAS, the Dream Builders Event, to be held on April 23, 2026, serves as a vital
opportunity to raise awareness and funds in support of Nicholas House's mission while
bringing together business leaders, community advocates, and philanthropists dedicated to
helping families in need; and
WHEREAS, the Dream Builders Event highlights the importance of community
collaboration in addressing homelessness and inspires collective action to ensure that
families not only find housing but also never experience homelessness again.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
commend Nicholas House Inc. for its outstanding service to the citizens of Georgia and
recognize the significance of the Dream Builders Event on April 23, 2026, as a meaningful
effort to support families experiencing homelessness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Nicholas House Inc.
and the organizers of the Dream Builders Event.
