By: Senators Kemp of the 38th, Harrell of the 40th, Jones II of the 22nd, Mangham of the
55th and Payne of the 54th
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Maggie McCullom for her outstanding contributions to senior
athletics and community wellness in the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia values the strength, resilience, and continued contributions
of its senior citizens, who play a vital role in shaping healthy, active, and connected
communities; and
WHEREAS, Maggie McCullom has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to both public
service and athletics, serving the citizens of Fulton County for over 48 years through her
work with the Fulton County Government and the Fulton County Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, following her retirement and recovery from a life-altering accident in downtown
Atlanta, Ms. McCullom found renewed strength through swimming and began her journey
in senior athletics in 2015; and
WHEREAS, since that time, Ms. McCullom has earned numerous accolades through her
participation in the Georgia Golden Games and National Senior Games, receiving multiple
gold, silver, and placement honors across a variety of sports including swimming, basketball,
track and field, and more; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, Ms. McCullom founded the first senior women's basketball team in
Atlanta, which has since grown into eight teams, creating opportunities for women across
generations to remain active and engaged in sports; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McCullom has proudly represented the State of Georgia on the national
stage, including being selected to carry the Georgia state flag during the opening ceremony
of the National Senior Games; and
WHEREAS, her participation in competitions across the nation, including Alabama, New
Mexico, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Iowa, has brought recognition to Georgia while inspiring
seniors to embrace healthy and active lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McCullom continues to advocate for increased participation, visibility, and
support for senior athletes, including the vision of hosting future National Senior Games in
Georgia and expanding opportunities statewide; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize individuals like Ms. McCullom who
exemplify perseverance, leadership, and a commitment to lifelong wellness.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize and commend Maggie McCullom for her outstanding achievements, leadership,
and dedication to promoting health, wellness, and athletic excellence among seniors in the
State of Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Maggie
McCullom.
