A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Senator Freddie Powell Sims on her outstanding public service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Senator Freddie Powell Sims has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2008, she serves the 12th Senate District, representing Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dougherty, Early, Miller, Mitchell, Quitman, Randolph, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, and Webster counties, following her service in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2004 to 2008; and

WHEREAS, she further serves as secretary of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth; a member of the Senate Committees on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Appropriations, Interstate Cooperation, Natural Resources and the Environment, and Urban Affairs; and as an ex-officio member of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities; and

WHEREAS, her legislative leadership includes shaping statewide dual enrollment protocol, securing appropriations for the Albany State University Fine Arts Center and Georgia Southwestern State University's Center for Excellence, and supporting critical infrastructure and community initiatives; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable patience and diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, Senator Freddie Powell Sims has served with honor and distinction with the Georgia State Senate, and her vision and unyielding commitment to excellence will be sorely missed upon the occasion of her retirement; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Senator Freddie Powell Sims for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia; congratulate her upon the grand occasion of her retirement; and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Senator Freddie Powell Sims.
