A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the contributions of Bangladeshi Americans in Georgia; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Bangladesh declared its independence on March 26, 1971, and the United States
recognized Bangladesh on April 4, 1972—this year celebrates 55 years of diplomatic
relations; and
WHEREAS, for the past 55 years, the United States and Bangladesh have maintained a
strong and cooperative relationship, engaging closely on a wide range of issues, including
trade, economic development, security, governance, and global affairs; and
WHEREAS, the relationship between the United States and Bangladesh is strengthened by
vibrant people-to-people connections, including a growing Bangladeshi American
community in Georgia that contributes to the state's economic, cultural, and civic life; and
WHEREAS, Bangladeshi Americans in Georgia continue to serve as a bridge between the
two nations by promoting education, business, cultural exchange, and community
engagement; and
WHEREAS, Bangladesh recently held national elections in which citizens exercised their
right to vote freely, marking an important step in the country's continued transition toward
democratic governance after more than a decade of political challenges; and
WHEREAS, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law are essential for democratic
governance, economic development, and sustainable growth, and meaningful efforts to
address widespread corruption are vital for strengthening public trust, ensuring good
governance, and promoting long-term prosperity in Bangladesh.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize and commend the contributions of Bangladeshi Americans in Georgia and the
strong people-to-people ties connecting the State of Georgia with Bangladesh.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body commend the people of
Bangladesh for their participation in recent national elections and encourage continued
progress toward democratic governance, transparency, accountability, and effective measures
to combat corruption in order to advance inclusive development and economic growth.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the
press.
