A RESOLUTION
Commending the Atlanta Football Host Committee for hosting the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, in August 2022, Atlanta, Georgia, was selected as the host of the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship; and
WHEREAS, Atlanta, Georgia, previously hosted the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2018 and was selected as the first city to serve as a repeat host of the College Football Playoff National Championship; and
WHEREAS, in 2018, the Atlanta Football Host Committee welcomed over 125,000 guests to the Championship Campus in downtown Atlanta, earned the highest TV rating on record for a college football game on ESPN, and hosted the first presidential visit to a college football championship since 1980; and
WHEREAS, The Atlanta Sports Council spearheaded the bid to host the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship alongside its partners in the community, including the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, Arthur M. Blank Sports and Entertainment, the City of Atlanta, Georgia World Congress Center Authority, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, the Georgia General Assembly and Governor Brian Kemp have supported Georgia's ability to host major sporting events with the extension of the sales tax exemption on tickets for major sporting events and a $4.75 million appropriation to facilitate public safety and infrastructure costs for the College Football Playoff National Championship; and
WHEREAS, the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship will be hosted at the world-class Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the host of the 2018 College Football Playoff Championship, the first LEED platinum-certified stadium to host a College Football Playoff National Championship, and the future host of multiple major sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup 2026 and Super Bowl 62; and
WHEREAS, over 600 volunteers from across the State of Georgia have stepped forward to serve as the first impression for visitors and express our first-class hospitality for guests all across the championship campus; and
WHEREAS, the Atlanta Football Host Committee and College Football Playoff Foundation have heavily invested in Georgia's communities with the creation of the Georgia Teachers Initiative, which has engaged with over 40,000 teachers across the whole state and funded teacher projects in all 159 counties; and
WHEREAS, the economic impact of hosting the College Football Playoff National Championship to the State of Georgia will be $75 million for Georgia's restaurants, hotels, vendors, and additional hospitality businesses.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Atlanta Football Host Committee for serving as the first repeat host city of the College Football Playoff National Championship and welcome the national championship game back to Atlanta, Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the Atlanta Football Host Committee and other parties.
