Senate Resolution 152

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the Georgia Academy of Audiology; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, approximately 60.7 million Americans aged 12 and older struggle with hearing loss; and

WHEREAS, the number of Georgians impacted by hearing loss and balance disorders continues to grow, and the national population experiencing hearing loss is expected to double by 2060; and

WHEREAS, audiologists are Georgia-licensed professionals holding Doctor of Audiology

(AuD) degrees or other doctoral degrees from accredited universities with specialized training programs in the identification, assessment, and treatment of hearing and balance disorders; and

WHEREAS, audiologists work collaboratively to provide evaluations and treatment options for hearing losses and balance disorders as well as educate about prevention efforts in private practices, hospitals, clinics, physician offices, universities, pre-k through 12 schools, and government and military facilities; and

WHEREAS, many Georgia-licensed audiologists are members of the Georgia Academy of Audiology, a nonprofit organization that plays a crucial role in supporting audiologists across Georgia by advocating for policies that improve access to hearing and balance healthcare, providing continuing education opportunities, fostering collaboration and networking among audiologists, and raising public awareness about the importance of hearing health, early detection, treatment of disorders, and the prevention of hearing loss; and

WHEREAS, many of the Georgia Academy of Audiology's members are also members of the national professional organization, the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), and they work closely with the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA); and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this organization and its members be appropriately recognized for the healthcare services provided to Georgians, including their leadership on healthcare policy.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend the Georgia Academy of Audiology for its years of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of this state as well as extend to the organization their most sincere best wishes.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Georgia Academy of Audiology.
