Senate Resolution 174 By: Senators Kennedy of the 18th, Williams of the 25th and Lucas of the 26th A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 19, 2025, as Macon Day at the state capitol and commending and congratulating Leadership Macon; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Leadership Macon provides leadership training and community orientation to individuals seeking to become more involved in the growth and development of Macon and Bibb County; and WHEREAS, a program of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Macon is a year-long program that introduces a class of upcoming community leaders to the attributes of and challenges to Macon and Bibb County so that the class can explore possible projects and solutions, interact with political and community leaders, and develop relationships that will benefit each class member and the community for years to come; and WHEREAS, class members receive unparalleled access to organizations, their leadership, and perspective in the community. Frank, candid exchanges of ideas are not only hallmarks of the program but are also the foundation on which Leadership Macon continues to build. The program's goal is that each Leadership Macon graduate will be equipped with the knowledge, relationships, and enthusiasm needed for active, effective community involvement and enrichment; and WHEREAS, in 1979, under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce, Charles Jay and Bob Hatcher brought 25 local leaders from diverse backgrounds together to form the first class of Leadership Macon, which was formally organized as an unincorporated association on October 16, 1984. Leadership Macon boasts over 1,600 alumni and celebrates its 46th anniversary as it continues to encourage everyone to Choose Macon. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize February 19, 2025, as Macon Day at the state capitol, commend Leadership Macon on its efforts to make Macon and Bibb County a better place to live and work, and offer congratulations on the group's 46th anniversary. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Leadership Macon.
