Senate Resolution 175

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing February 13, 2025, as Donor Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, nearly 3,100 Georgians provided the gift of renewed or improved life through organ, eye, and tissue donation during 2024, including 176 who chose to become living kidney donors, saving and improving the lives of tens of thousands through organ, eye, and tissue transplantation; and

WHEREAS, these generous gifts were facilitated by organ, tissue, and eye recovery and transplant organizations in Georgia that work together to educate the public about the importance of organ, tissue, and eye donation as Donate Life Georgia; and

WHEREAS, LifeLink of Georgia partners with hospitals to support and guide families as they establish their loved one's legacy through organ and tissue donation as well as honors each donor by saving and improving the lives of as many patients as possible; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Transplant Foundation bridges the gap between hope and opportunity by providing financial, educational, emotional, and community support programs and services that enrich the lives of those affected by organ transplantation in the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, LifeLink of Georgia and member organizations of Donate Life Georgia encourage individuals to register their decision to save lives by joining the Donate Life Georgia organ, eye, and tissue donor registry while obtaining a driver's license, online at www.DonateLifeGeorgia.org, or when obtaining a hunting or fishing license through the Department of Natural Resources; and

WHEREAS, LifeLink of Georgia and member organizations of Donate Life Georgia are working tirelessly to ensure that the nearly 2,900 Georgians currently awaiting an organ transplant receive a second chance at life; and

WHEREAS, by celebrating Donor Day at the state capitol and sharing the Donate Life message, we can save and heal more lives and honor donors' legacies of generosity and compassion; and

WHEREAS, we recognize those who have given the gift of life, both after death and through living donation; those who have received the gift of life through organ, eye, and tissue donation; those who are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant; and those who died waiting because an organ was not gifted in time.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the selfless individuals and their families who make donation possible as well as the member organizations of Donate Life Georgia for their tireless dedication to educating Georgians about and saving lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation and recognize February 13, 2025, as Donor Day at the state capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to LifeLink of Georgia.
