A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Joseph Marion Binns; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Joseph Marion Binns on January 5, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Marion Binns was born on July 13, 1942, in Columbus, Georgia, a
beloved son of Alice and Dr. Joseph Binns Sr.; and
WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Army Reserves, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans as an
Airborne Demolition Specialist; and
WHEREAS, in 1983, Joseph Marion Binns relocated to Columbus, where he established
Southern Relocation Services, a commercial moving business that operated across the
southeastern United States, managing large-scale moves efficiently and reliably; and
WHEREAS, after returning to Atlanta in the 1990s, he expanded Southern Relocation
Services to handle commercial projects along much of the East Coast; and
WHEREAS, beyond his career, he had a lifelong passion for aviation, earning his pilot's
license at 18 years old, and he loved fishing, golf, motorcycles, long pontoon boat rides, and
Braves baseball—his favorite spectator sport; and
WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife of 57 years, Carol, and was
blessed with three remarkable children, Anthony, Joseph III, and Ward, as well as five
wonderful grandchildren, Grayson, Nathan, Isabelle, Daniel, and Josephine; and
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his
family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he
made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Joseph Marion Binns will long be
remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who
had the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
join in honoring the life and memory of Joseph Marion Binns and express their deepest and
most sincere regret at his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of
Joseph Marion Binns.
