Senate Resolution 209 By: Senators Esteves of the 35th, Kirkpatrick of the 32nd, James of the 28th, Rhett of the 33rd, Albers of the 56th and others A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending Aaliyah Phillips, Miss Cobb County 2025; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Aaliyah Phillips was crowned Miss Cobb County 2025 at the 66th annual Miss Cobb County Scholarship Competition in Marietta, Georgia, a title that recognizes her dedication to education, leadership, and community service; and WHEREAS, she will go on to compete for the title of Miss Georgia in June 2025, the winner of which will represent the State of Georgia in the Miss America Competition; and WHEREAS, the Miss Cobb County Scholarship Board additionally awarded her with a $10,000 cash scholarship to support her pursuit of a Doctor of Education in education policy as well as her ultimate goal of serving as the Secretary of the United States Department of Education; and WHEREAS, a 2024 magna cum laude graduate of Columbus State University, she earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education while maintaining consistent placement on the President's List and serving as a Student Government Association senator; and WHEREAS, she has further honed her leadership skills by serving as a communications intern for United States Senator Jon Ossoff, training at the Ron Clark Academy, and attending the Disney Dreamers Academy; and WHEREAS, Aaliyah is currently in her first year as a kindergarten teacher and has dedicated over 500 hours to community service, actively participating in local events as a vocalist, speaker, advocate, and volunteer; and WHEREAS, she further serves as the founder of SPREAD: Spreading Literacy Through Reading, an initiative focused on promoting literacy equality, through which she has partnered with organizations such as Girls, Inc.; United Way of Greater Atlanta; the Literacy Alliance; and Cobb Collaborative, Educating, Engaging and Empowering; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distinguished young woman be appropriately honored. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate Aaliyah Phillips for winning the title of Miss Cobb County 2025, commend her for her outstanding service on behalf of the students of this state, and extend best wishes for success in future competition. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Aaliyah Phillips.
