A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 11, 2025, as Georgia Linemen Day; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Georgia's linemen are dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to ensure that
electrical power is restored to homes and communities during times of crisis, often under
dangerous and challenging conditions; and
WHEREAS, Georgia's linemen play an essential part in maintaining the state's power
infrastructure, ensuring the safety and well-being of Georgians before and after natural
disasters, storms, and other events; and
WHEREAS, during Hurricane Helene, a devastating hurricane that ravaged multiple areas
of Georgia, linemen were on the front lines, sometimes working up to 18-hour days in
hazardous conditions to restore power to thousands of residents in the wake of widespread
outages caused by downed power lines and infrastructure damage; and
WHEREAS, more than 8,000 women and men worked long hours in the aftermath of
Hurricane Helene, often in high winds and rain, demonstrating extraordinary courage,
resilience, and commitment to their communities as well as ensuring that power was restored
as quickly and safely as possible to support recovery efforts; and
WHEREAS, the swift and efficient restoration of electrical services by Georgia's linemen
during and after Hurricane Helene was critical in enabling the recovery process, providing
relief to those affected by power outages, and ensuring the safety of residents and first
responders in the storm's aftermath; and
WHEREAS, Georgia's linemen continue to be instrumental in maintaining the state's
electrical infrastructure and responding to emergencies, including hurricanes and severe
storms, ensuring that Georgia's communities remain resilient in the face of natural disasters;
and
WHEREAS, our linemen's dedication to service exemplifies the values of hard work,
teamwork, and selflessness, making them unsung heroes during times of crisis; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the contributions of Georgia's linemen be recognized and
celebrated for their vital role in safeguarding the state's residents and infrastructure during
and after natural disasters, including Hurricane Helene.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize March 11, 2025, as Georgia Linemen Day to honor and celebrate the exceptional
efforts of Georgia's linemen, past and present, in their ongoing commitment to public service
and the protection of our state's residents.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the
press.
