A RESOLUTION

Honoring and commending the Kingdom of Denmark and Honorary Consul Christopher N. Smith, Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog 1st Class; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the United States and the Kingdom of Denmark have maintained unbroken diplomatic relations since 1801; and

WHEREAS, established in 1802 in Georgia, the Royal Danish Consulate is one of the oldest foreign missions in the state; and

WHEREAS, the Kingdom of Denmark is a founding member of NATO and a longtime ally of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the economic relationship between the Kingdom of Denmark and the State of Georgia supports over 4,200 jobs in the State of Georgia, with over 60 Danish companies having offices in this state; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia ranks sixth among the United States in exports to the Kingdom of Denmark; and

WHEREAS, it is the desire of this body to encourage greater collaboration and exchanges between the State of Georgia and the Kingdom of Denmark in the fields of economic development, trade, scientific research, education, medicine, biotechnology, agriculture, financial technology, and cultural exchanges.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor the Kingdom of Denmark; promote economic development, trade, scientific research, education, medicine, biotechnology, agriculture, financial technology, and cultural exchanges between the State of Georgia and the Kingdom of Denmark; and commend the Honorable Christopher N. Smith, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Denmark in the State of Georgia. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Honorary Consul Christopher N. Smith, Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog 1st Class.
