Senate Resolution 327

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Lowndes County on the occasion of its Bicentennial; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Lowndes County was created by an act of the Georgia General Assembly on December 23, 1825, marking 200 years of rich history and progress; and

WHEREAS, the county was named in honor of William J. Lowndes, a distinguished statesman from South Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Valdosta was established in 1860 and has since played a significant role in the county's economic and infrastructural growth; and

WHEREAS, today, Lowndes County is home to a thriving population of approximately 120,700 residents and serves as a regional hub for economic growth and vitality; and

WHEREAS, the county boasts key industries such as advanced manufacturing, agribusiness, food processing, warehousing, and distribution, making it an essential contributor to Georgia's economy; and

WHEREAS, Lowndes County is home to Moody Air Force Base, which plays a crucial role in national defense and the local economy; and

WHEREAS, the municipalities of Lowndes County, including Valdosta, Hahira, Dasher, Lake Park, and Remerton, contribute to the county's diverse and vibrant community; and

WHEREAS, as Lowndes County commemorates its Bicentennial, it is fitting to recognize and celebrate the county's rich heritage, economic progress, and the enduring spirit of its residents.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Lowndes County on the occasion of its Bicentennial and extend best wishes for continued prosperity and success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Lowndes County officials and community leaders.
