By: Senators Lucas of the 26th, Williams of the 25th and Kennedy of the 18th
A RESOLUTION
Congratulating the Northeast High School Raiders football team for participating in the 2024
GHSA Class A Division 1 State Championship; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the Raiders football team of Northeast High School in Macon, Georgia, has
demonstrated extraordinary skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the 2024
season; and
WHEREAS, under the exceptional leadership of Head Coach Jeremy Wiggins, the Northeast
Raiders achieved a remarkable 12-3 record, showcasing their talent and dedication on the
field; and
WHEREAS, the Raiders made history by advancing to the GHSA Class A Division 1 State
Championship game for the first time in school history, bringing pride and excitement to the
East Macon community; and
WHEREAS, the team's success was built on the outstanding performances of key players
such as senior running back Nick Woodford, who amassed 2,494 yards and 41 total
touchdowns, nearly breaking the county single-season rushing record; junior quarterback
Reginald "Bam" Glover, who achieved both 1,000 rushing and 1,000 passing yards in the
season; senior linebacker Santana Balkcom, who averaged nearly 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks
per game; junior linebacker Tailen Sampson, who consistently contributed eight tackles per
game; and Kortnei Williams, who demonstrated exceptional defensive skills with an
impressive 10 interceptions; and
WHEREAS, the Northeast Raiders' journey to the state championship game united the
community, inspiring students from elementary to high school and reigniting Raider pride
throughout East Macon; and
WHEREAS, the team's historic season included hosting the first Macon home semifinal
game since 1975, defeating Fitzgerald 46-14 in a commanding performance; and
WHEREAS, the Northeast Raiders' achievements extend beyond the field as they have
become role models for perseverance, teamwork, and academic excellence, embodying the
true spirit of student-athletes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
congratulate the Northeast High School Raiders football team upon its outstanding 2024
season, its historic run to the state championship game, and its positive impact on the
community as well as celebrate its achievements and the bright future it represents for
Macon-Bibb County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Northeast High
School Raiders football team.
