A RESOLUTION

Congratulating and commending Alisha Thomas Searcy for receiving the 2025 Yellow Rose Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in 1999, Representative Nikki T. Randall became the first African American female elected to the General Assembly from middle Georgia, and over her 17 years of service as a legislator, she held numerous leadership positions, including chair of the Georgia Women's Legislative Caucus; and

WHEREAS, every year during Women's History Month, the Georgia Women's Legislative Caucus recognizes outstanding women in Georgia who exemplify the leadership and inspiration embodied by Representative Randall; and

WHEREAS, Alisha Thomas Searcy has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education policy and reform, serving as the sponsor of the state's Intra-District Transfer Law and co-sponsoring both the state's constitutional amendment that established the State Charter School Commission and the state's Teacher Evaluation Law; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to ensuring every child has access to a high-quality education regardless of zip code, she has built a career as a policymaker, superintendent, and nonprofit leader, devoting her efforts to improving educational outcomes for students across Georgia; and

WHEREAS, in her current role as President of the Southern Region for Education Reform Now and Democrats for Education Reform, she continues to shape education policy, advocate for equitable opportunities for students, and support teachers through innovative initiatives and leadership; and

WHEREAS, Alisha Thomas Searcy is also an entrepreneur who runs her own education consulting firm, appears as a frequent speaker and thought leader on education matters across many platforms, and contributes regularly to Fox 5 Atlanta's Georgia Gang; and

WHEREAS, deeply engaged in her community, she further serves on numerous boards, including the Joseph and Evelyn Lowery Institute and Georgia First, and she is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary servant leader be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate and commend Alisha Thomas Searcy for receiving the 2025 Yellow Rose Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award and extend best wishes for her continued success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Alisha Thomas Searcy.
