Senate Resolution 376

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Larry Pellegrini; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Larry Pellegrini has dedicated over 30 years to championing progressive causes and advocating for LGBTQ equality at the Georgia State Capitol; and

WHEREAS, he began his journey in advocacy through his volunteer work with Southern Voice and made history as the first openly gay lobbyist at the Georgia State Capitol, advocating for LGBTQ rights at a time when such efforts faced significant opposition and focusing his early work on sodomy law reform; and

WHEREAS, Larry Pellegrini participated in the Cracker Barrel campaign, a landmark protest movement that directly challenged employment discrimination against LGBTQ individuals and influenced broader discussions on domestic partnerships and equality; and

WHEREAS, he has further served as the executive director of the Georgia Rural Urban Summit, which connects rural and urban progressives, as well as a member of the board of directors for the Georgia Stonewall Democrats; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Larry Pellegrini has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to uniting diverse groups in the pursuit of justice, fairness, and equality, working to combat discriminatory legislation and protect fundamental rights; and

WHEREAS, he remains a respected leader in Georgia's progressive movement, inspiring a new generation of activists to continue the fight for hate crime protections, non-discrimination policies, and other critical legislative advancements; and

WHEREAS, his exemplary efforts and unwavering dedication to advocacy have left an enduring mark on Georgia's political landscape and the broader fight for equality, making it abundantly fitting and proper that he be appropriately honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Larry Pellegrini for his remarkable contributions to progressive advocacy and LGBTQ rights in Georgia and extend best wishes for future health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Larry Pellegrini.
