55th, Davenport of the 17th and others
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Mrs. Valarie Wilson on her outstanding public service as the1
Executive Director of the Georgia School Boards Association; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Mrs. Valarie Wilson has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for3
the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep p ersonal commitment to the4
welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and5
WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,6
talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced7
dramatically by her superlative service with the Georgia School Boards Association and the8
Board of City Schools of Decatur; and9
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilson served on Board of City Schools of Decatur from 2002-2011,10
where she resiliently led the district through financial recession and was instrumental in the11
establishment of the College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center; and12
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilson joined the Georgia School Boards Associati on in 2009, and13
honorably served as its president from 2012 to 2013; and 14

WHEREAS, she left an indelible mark on the Georgia School Boards Association through15
her involvement in the creation of the Georgia Vision Project, an educational framework for16
boards that includes input from board members, superintendents, teachers, teaching colleges,17
elected officials, parents, and students; and 18
WHEREAS, she has selflessly served the State of Georgia as the Executive Director of the19
Atlanta BeltLine Partnership, Inc., Director of the Human Servi ces Department in Fulton20
County, Director of Fulton Count y's Office of Aging, and on Gov ernor Deal's Education21
Advisory Board; and22
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilson's significant organizational and leadershi p talents, remarkable23
patience and diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of24
this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and25
WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for26
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and27
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilson has served with honor and distinction with the Georgia School28
Boards Association, and her vision and unyielding commitment to excellence have set the29
standard for public service; and30
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this31
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.32
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body33
recognize and commend Mrs. Valarie Wilson for her efficient, ef fective, unselfish, and34

dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and extend the most sincere best wishes for35
continued health and happiness.36
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed37
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Mrs. Valarie38
Wilson.39
