A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Carlos Rico Walker; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Carlos Rico Walker, better known as Shawty Lo, was a rapper, songwriter, and producer from Atlanta, Georgia’s, Bowen Homes community; and
WHEREAS, in 2003, Shawty Lo formed the Hip Hop group D4L, with fellow Atlanta based rappers Fabio, Mook-B and Stoney; and
WHEREAS, the group hit national status in January 2006, when their single “Laffy Taffy” topped the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to be certified Platinum twice by the Recording Industry Association of America; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, Shawty Lo began pursuing a solo career with his debut album“Units in the City," which reached number 14 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and sold over 160,000 copies; and
WHEREAS, Shawty Lo is known as the KING of Bankhead, he represented the ingenuity of Bankhead and Bowen Homes as well as diligently contributed to numerous causes that supported the community; and
WHEREAS, Shawty Lo passed away on September 21, 2016, leaving a legacy of innovative, influential, and authentic contributions to the hip hop community; and
WHEREAS, on March 22, 2025, Shawty Lo would have celebrated his 49th birthday.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Carlos Rico Walker for his significant impact on music and culture in Atlanta as well as join in the celebration of his 49th birthday. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
