## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia Senate resolution formally recognizes and commends the Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta for its decades of scholarship and mentoring work in the metro Atlanta area.

### Plain-language summary

This is a ceremonial resolution from the Georgia Senate, not a change to state law. It honors the Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta, a group of graduates of Howard University living in the metro Atlanta area, for more than 60 years of community work.
The resolution describes the club's history of raising scholarship money for local students to attend Howard University, running decades-long bus trips introducing Georgia high school students to the university, and mentoring young people. It also notes notable Howard alumni tied to Georgia, including former Atlanta mayors and civil rights figures. The Senate directs its Secretary to prepare a copy of the resolution for the club, but the text creates no new laws, funding, or legal requirements.

### What it does

- Formally states that the Senate recognizes and commends the Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta for its community contributions.
- Directs the Secretary of the Senate to prepare and distribute an official copy of the resolution to the club.
- Creates no new law, funding, or legal obligation; it is a symbolic statement of praise from the chamber.

### Who it affects

The resolution directly names and honors the Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta and its members. It has no legal effect on other Georgians, businesses, or government agencies beyond the Senate's own administrative act of distributing the resolution.

### Why it matters

The resolution carries no legal weight and changes no Georgia law or funding, but it gives the Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta an official, on-the-record acknowledgment from the state Senate of its scholarship and mentoring work over more than 60 years.

### Key provisions

- The whereas clauses describe the club's 60-plus year history, its scholarship fundraising, and its decades of bus trips exposing Georgia students to Howard University.
- The resolving clause states that Senate members recognize and commend the club's contributions.
- A further resolving clause directs the Secretary of the Senate to make a copy available for distribution to the club.
