Senate Resolution 45

A RESOLUTION

Commending the Georgia Young Farmer Teacher Program; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Georgia Young Farmer Teacher Program (GYFT) provides systematic agricultural education for individuals actively engaged in farming or agricultural endeavors; and

WHEREAS, the program operates under the direction of the State Department of Education and local agriculture departments in public high schools, with instruction planned jointly by Young Farmer Teachers and participants; and

WHEREAS, the GYFT was established in 1951 as an instructional initiative coordinated by full-time Young Farmer Teachers and expanded in 1971 with the organization of the Georgia Young Farmers Association to provide state-level coordination and leadership activities; and

WHEREAS, the GYFT is intended to meet the educational needs of all who have a vested interest in agriculture and seek to continue educational training; and

WHEREAS, the GYFT's mission is to provide educational, leadership, and networking opportunities to agriculture education students and adults interested in agriculture, assisting them in achieving their personal goals and creating a more viable and sustainable agriculture industry in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary organization be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Georgia Young Farmer Teacher Program and extend best wishes for future growth and success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Georgia Young Farmer Teacher Program.
