A RESOLUTION
Congratulating the Savannah State University men's basketball team for winning the 20251
Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament Championship; and for2
other purposes.3
WHEREAS, the Savannah State University men's basketball team has proudly captured the4
2025 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Basket ball Tournament5
Championship, securing a thrilling 67-66 victory over Tuskegee University in the6
championship game on Saturday, March 8, 2025; and7
WHEREAS, this remarkable achievement marks the second SIAC Championship in just four8
years, following their 2022 title, showcasing the team's continued excellence and resilience;9
and10
WHEREAS, Interim Head Coach Clevan Thompson, who took the helm in early January,11
has guided the Tigers to an impressive 13-5 record, including a current eight-game winning12
streak, demonstrating his leadership and strategic prowess; and13
WHEREAS, junior guard and Savannah native Javonte Landy, along with senior guard14
Ayjay Plain, were honored with All-Tournament Team selections f or their outstanding15

performances while senior guard/forward Qua King was named the Tournament's Most16
Valuable Player, further exemplifying the team's individual and collective talent; and17
WHEREAS, the Savannah State University men's basketball team represented the SIAC in18
the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament as the No . 8 seed in the South19
Region, continuing their pursuit of excellence on the national stage.20
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body21
congratulate the Savannah State University men's basketball tea m upon winning the 202522
Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Tournam ent Championship and23
extend best wishes for their continued success.24
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed25
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Savannah State26
