A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and memory of Hattie B. Dorsey; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Hattie B. Dorsey on May 29, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Hattie B. Dorsey was a visionary leader and the founding President and CEO of the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc.;and

WHEREAS, she was a tireless advocate for affordable and mixed-income housing, and devoted her life to creating opportunities for families and communities across metro Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career, Hattie B. Dorsey broke racial and gender barriers in government and nonprofit leadership, serving in key roles with the United States Department of the Interior, Mayor Ivan Allen, United States Representative Charles Weltner, and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund; and

WHEREAS, upon returning to Atlanta in 1984, she served as Vice President of the Atlanta Economic Development Corporation, now Invest Atlanta, where she worked to increase minority participation in major redevelopment projects and address the decline of historically Black neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, in partnership with civic leaders, she helped establish Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc., and led the organization for 15 years, securing over $15 million for community development organizations and launching one of the region's first United States Treasury Certified Development Financial Institutions; and

WHEREAS, her work laid the foundation for Atlanta's current housing initiatives and inspired a generation of leaders, as well as left behind a powerful legacy of leadership, compassion, and service; and

WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to her family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Hattie B. Dorsey will long be remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Hattie B. Dorsey and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Hattie B. Dorsey.
