## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia Senate resolution congratulates Xion Evans and the BEST Academy boys basketball team on winning the 2024-2025 GHSA Class A Division I Boys State Basketball Championship.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution is a ceremonial honor from the Georgia Senate. It recognizes Xion Evans and the BEST Academy boys basketball team for winning the 2024-2025 GHSA Class A Division I Boys State Basketball Championship, described as the team's first-ever state title.
The resolution praises the team's athletic ability, teamwork, and coaching staff, and names the players, coaches, managers, and athletic trainer involved. It does not change any Georgia law. It simply directs the Secretary of the Senate to prepare a copy of the resolution for distribution to Xion Evans.

### What it does

- Formally congratulates Xion Evans for winning the 2024-2025 GHSA Class A Division I Boys State Basketball Championship.
- Recognizes the BEST Academy boys basketball team, its coaches, managers, and athletic trainer by name for the championship season.
- Directs the Secretary of the Senate to prepare and distribute an official copy of the resolution to Xion Evans.
- Creates no new law, funding, or penalty; it is a symbolic statement of the Senate's recognition.

### Who it affects

The resolution directly names Xion Evans, the BEST Academy boys basketball team, its coaches (Brian Weeden, Mario Lemons Sr., Damian Goodwin, and Jessica Johnson), team managers, an athletic trainer, and the Secretary of the Senate, who must produce a copy for distribution.

### Why it matters

The resolution has no legal effect and changes no Georgia law. Its practical impact is symbolic: it gives official state recognition to a high school athlete and team for a championship season, providing a keepsake document from the Senate.

### Key provisions

- The whereas clauses describe the BEST Academy team's 2024-2025 season and its first-ever state championship win.
- The resolution names the full roster, including Xion Evans #1 and seven teammates, along with coaches, managers, and the athletic trainer.
- The resolved clause formally congratulates Xion Evans and wishes continued success.
- The final clause directs the Secretary of the Senate to make a copy available for distribution to Xion Evans.
